When Laurie returned to the United States in 1946, he married Will, and the pair opened Hartzog Jewelers together in 1947. Laurie and Will ran the store together until 2004, when they decided to retire, passing the company on to their children.

Will worked as a realtor before opening Hartzog Jewelers. The family later moved to Gaffney in South Carolina.
